Cabin Getaway + Weekend Menu

Fall is changing leaves, crisp evenings, and warm fires. Its cuddling, drinking wine, and big conversations that last late into the night.

And all of that is better in a cabin near a lake.

Earlier this week we set all of our problems aside and drove to a cabin I booked on AirBnB about an hour away from where we live. I love being near the water, even though it was way too cold to go in! We laughed, cried, and refocused our intentions for the upcoming year; after all, fall is a time for change, for letting the dead things go.

I think that it is so important to be able to make space for big, uncomfortable conversations with those with whom you are closest. Its never easy but it is always worth it. The lake and the cabin created this beautiful and cathartic space for conversation.

We spent time building fires and playing board games (and watching Schitt's Creek on Netflix for the 4th time). I made all of the food ahead of time so we had plenty of yummy things to eat without having to worry about making a big mess in the kitchen. I spent a lot of time browsing Pinterest to find the perfect fall weekend menu, and while there was a lot of good inspiration there really wasn't anything specific that spoke to me. You know, that perfect blend of easy, romantic, filling, cozy food for a weekend at the lake.

We arrived Sunday afternoon and I wanted something really easy for the first night and cinnamon rolls for one of the breakfasts. The other meal could be a little more complicated but I still wanted it to be fast so the beets were roasted ahead of time. The last breakfast is my fall/winter go-to; it can be a very fast meal to throw together if you cook the sweet potatoes and sausage ahead of time.
